Hello everyone! Eizaz here, and this is the end result of all our hard work over the past couple of months. Everything is finally complete; all teaching rooms, offices, stage, jamming studio and recording studio all under one roof. I'll allow the pictures to do the talking!

This is the interior of the store, our selection of electric guitars, amplifiers and keyboards, From Fender to Ibanez, Gibson and ESP, we've got them all!

Our bass selection encompasses entry-level basses from RM400 to professional-grade instruments costing thousands of dollars. Our in-house repairman and luthier ensures quality control throughout.

The higher range of guitars and basses go here. We carry American Stratocasters, Mexican Stratocasters, Music Man, Japanese Ibanez Prestige and the new Ibanez Premium range. We've also got a selection of Taylor acoustic guitars so check them out!

This is the new recording studio and a wicked, kicking set of drums and cymbals. We will lease the studio out for practice at RM50 per hour, and recording rates from RM100 per hour, including mixing and some minor engineering. Full miking for the drumkit and a killer room to boot!

This is a photo of yours truly at his drumkit. I've been playing for years and years on the same Tama drumkit before we moved here and I finally have a proper drumkit with proper cymbals, pedals and hardware. There is much to add on to the kit, like a cowbell and percussion but after years of waiting I finally have something proper! For comparison's sake this is what the drumkit (and player) looked like around 4 years back.

And this is a photo of my partners and their lovely daughter. We've gone through so much in the past few years and I am very grateful to have met them along the way. Through thick and thin (man, when it was thin, it was THIN) we've somehow managed to reach the next level of development together. Jack Thammarat Live Clinic, Presented by Mama Treble Clef Studio in co-operation with Yamaha Malaysia

What a day it was! On the 11th of November, 2011 - 11/11/11 (an interesting date as well), the guitar virtuoso and YouTube superstar Jack Thammarat, winner of Guitar Idol 2009, came all the way from Thailand to do a guitar clinic for our students and regular customers.

We basically set up the stage, sound system, mixers and amps and drums and lights and everything you can imagine in the span of two days. Here are some of the interesting equipment I had to set up on the day;

You see, Jack is a newly-crowned Laney artist so all the amplifiers on the day were Laney amps. Jack's personal amp is the new Ironheart; it's a 300W monster tube amp with incredible tone and warmth. Each amplifier was miced up using a condenser mic directed at the speaker.

For the gig I used a hybrid drum kit ala Akira Jimbo style; it's basically a DTX520 combined with real cymbals and my favourite Pearl steel snare drum from the late 90s. I used the DTX for the kick and toms, mixed together and lined out into the mixer (my trusty Iron Cobra Power Glide pedals are also visible) whereas the snare and cymbals were miced up. All in all I got apretty good sound - but alas the overheads weren't plugged in for the gig and I lost my cymbal sounds! Oh well.

This was the stage setup for the day; I'm running everything through a Yamaha MG24FX mixer and a smaller cheap power mixer on the left for the stage monitors. Each channel is I/O-ed into a Roland UA-101 audio interface for mixing with Cubase. I usually mix digitally so I can save the settings and edit them easily. The house system is powered by two 1200W power amplifiers and a Behringer EQ (set to flat - didn't have time to balance everything), a crossover and a compressor. (P.S. everything here you can purchase from Mama Treble Clef Studio - call 03-95432201 and we can help you set up a stage and sound system and balance it as well.)

The bass amp was DI-ed (direct inject) to the mixer and we had 4 stage monitors. The house system was run through a set of EV 15' speakers and 18' subwoofers - I was quite pleased with the sound overall!

Guitar virtuoso Jack Thammarat gives a live clinic on the stage of Mama Treble Clef Studio. Held on the 11th of November 2011, Jack runs through some of his pieces in this video series and even jams with our in-house teacher's band at the end! It was an awesome show, with a full house of over 120 people and everyone had their photo and guitars autographed by Jack. We hope to have him here again!

Moving Premises and Company Expansion

Hi guys! Most of you may know me as a teacher in the music store Mama Treble Clef Studio and in-house musician (technician/admin guy/IT department/repairman/brute strength lifting dude/the guy you turn to when everything goes wrong and want things fixed in the shortest time possible without prior notice) among other things. I've been given the task of chronicling events that will be going on for the next good month or two. So here I am, writing this on my (infamous red-flamed decorated Toshiba Qosmio that weighs 7kg) notebook in a new, empty lot that we will be moving in shortly. Thing is, we've been talking about moving and all for quite some time now as some of my students might be able to attest to, and it's finally coming around. This, however exciting and fun it may seem - and actually is, I assure you - poses a bit of an issue to some members of the team (okay only two), particularly Ray Lee (right) and myself.

A bit about the company background; we started out as a small, miniature lot with practically 3 guitars, 2 pianos and around 50 students back in 2005-2006. Back then it was much simpler; a 300 square foot room that we basically furnished and renovated ourselves. A few years later we came up with the recording studio which we also furnished on our own, and the current 3 conjoined lots which, yes, we did ourselves. One reason was due to our budget (read; lack thereof) and simply because we didn't have much to do around the tiny store anyway, and also picked up a bunch of skills - mainly dangerous, tiring and monotonous - like installing partitions, wiring the ceiling and lighting, as well as sitting in an enclosed room with cancerous toxic fumes.

And now we're moving for a third and possibly final time to this monster of a venue, enough to house all divisions of the shop, inclusive of a recording studio, performance stage, showroom, cafe and music classes (natural disaster relief spot, emergency gathering area - who knows what else, really).

So anyway, we've had some experience in renovating and doing things on our own as you can see, but this is a whole different experience. It's a different thing furnishing a 400 square foot venue versus a 13,000 square foot venue. First of all, the cost involved is much larger, and there are some things you just can't do without spending half a year trying to pry open (i.e. the air-cond ventilation ducts which are drawn from the shopping complex's mains). Then there's the issue of decorating the space, purchasing enough stock to fill it up so that it doesn't look like the North/South Korea demilitarized zone, and finding reliable staff that show up on time and disappear when required (as opposed to random times and the worst possible moments where you feel like strangling the nearest form of intelligent life not unlike a Phua Chu Kang script).

INTRODUCTION
Guitars come in all different shapes and sizes, forms and colors - and is arguably the most personalized musical instrument of all time. They also come in all sorts of price ranges as well, depending on the player, experience and budget. Today's review will take a look at the new range of guitars from the brand Jaxville; Demon, Hades, and Zeus. Basically a guitar catered to the entry-level market, each guitar is adorned with high-quality airbrushed images which make for a stunning display on stage or in the studio.

OVERVIEW
The Jaxville Custom Series II guitars are distinctive designer guitars with a penchant for the stage. There are 3 "themes" to choose from: "Demon" showcases a red-and-black theme of flames, "Hades", named after the Greek god of the underworld depicts a shadowy figure in the moonlight, and "Zeus", the King of Gods, has lightning bolts splitting the guitar apart. Each guitar is finished in hi-quality gloss finish, with matching headstock and neck. All guitars are based on a Fender design, with three single-coil pickups and a rosewood neck, 22 frets each. The review unit was packaged with a 10-watt amplifier, a soft case and an instructional DVD.

Each guitar features a 5-way selector switch, two tone controls and one volume control to shape your sound. Every inch of the guitar is coated in shiny, gloss black with no wood to be seen, augmenting the guitar's stage appearance. The pickups emit a glassy, clear tone as expected from a single coil; rhythm playing and accompaniment work very well on the guitar. When put through an overdrive pedal, the guitar responds like a Fender Stratocaster, making it suitable for rock and even country playing. The neck is in the shape of a soft "C" neck reminiscent of a Telecaster; this guitar would be suitable for players who are comfortable with their thumb on the back or side of the neck. The guitar is slightly on the heavy side, perhaps due to the full gloss finish but in no way does the it affect the guitar's playability and balance. As for the supplied amplifier, it does a good job of a first practice amplifier to learn the basics on, but will surely need to be upgraded once the player reaches a certain skill level. The included DVD is informative and runs through many beginner issues, and is of a great help to those just starting out.

CONCLUSION

After spending some time with these guitars, it can be said that the Jaxville Custom Series II guitars are truly catered for the entry-level player who is looking for a different axe to try out. The eye-catching design will surely attract the attention of those who want to stand out, and considering the market pricing of the guitar, it looks like a great bargain. The Jaxville guitar comes in a package as well, alongside an amplifier, soft case and instructional DVD. The guitar plays well, stays in tune and sounds decent. If you're looking for something unique and different for a first guitar, by all means go for it!

We've been having our rehearsals every saturday and just last week, we had a performance in Ipoh. The fusion band JUNK gets together in the studio for their first live demo, this video featuring T-Square's Takarajima. The band JUNK consists of 5 young musicians from different backgrounds, coming together for a shared love of the music they play, jazz-funk - hence the name JUNK. The band enjoys the style of fusion groups such as the Chick Corea Elektric Band, Fourplay, Return To Forever and especially so for Japanese jazz fusion bands particularly T-Square, Casiopea and Dimension.

Symphony Orchestra

Symphony Orchestra or violin is the most popular instruments among the various musical instruments. It is therefore a small part of a large group of instruments that produces great effects while one hears such orchestra. The violin is the smallest of the string instruments but has the highest sound and it is almost three times as many as there are violas or cellos.

The lower string includes the viola that is a bit larger than the violin and very often used in harmony. Sometimes it gets melody but sounds very similar to violin and is tuned one fifth lower. The cello is an octave less than the viola and is played between the knees of the instrumentalist. It is having a mellow sound but doubles the violin's melody very often. The bass is the lowest of the strings and is played standing upright. It has the same strings as the violin but it is in reverse order and several octaves lower.

Except the string instruments, very few people know that what exactly is an orchestra. Woodwind includes the flute, the clarinet, the piccolo, the bassoon, and the oboe. Piccolo is the highest of the woodwinds and is used for solos that are high enough to soar above the orchestra at many times. The flute and clarinet doubles the strings and in the recent times they have more melody. The bassoon is the lowest and is used to add color to the strings at the same time it has a lot of harmony and sometimes double the string parts. Oboe used to be an important part of the orchestra but now it is used very less.

Brass is also an important part of an orchestra and these instruments project quite a bit and are used more often in melodies. French horn is one of the most useful brasses because it easily doubles the rest of the brasses. Trumpet is also well known instrument that is rather high to soar above the orchestra to be heard.

Percussion is also important whereas tympani drum is the most important of all percussion as it provides beat as well as different tones. Snare drums, bass drums, gongs, xylophones, bells, triangles, etc. are also used.

Tips - Good Buy Quality Orchestra and Band Instruments

Before you start looking for an instrument, here are some professional tips on how to choose quality instrument without breaking your budget.

Each year, thousands beginning band and orchestra students begin the wonderful pursuit of learning a musical instrument only to be frustrated with a low quality instrument. Unfortunately, some companies produce and sell discount instruments that are such a low quality, students don't have a chance of succeeding in their first year of band or orchestra.

How do you know which instruments are okay for a beginner? It's not easy since poor quality instruments look basically the same to the untrained eye. Their trumpets are just as shinny as better quality instruments and their violins can look beautiful at first glance.

A general rule for band instruments is to check on where it was manufactured. Almost all instruments made in the U.S.A. and Japan are good for beginners. Some quality brands include Artley, Armstrong, Bach, Benge, Blessing, Boosey & Hawkes, Buffet, Bundy, Conn, Emerson, Gem üeinhardt, Getzen, Jupiter, Holton, King, Leblanc, Ludwig, Olds, Pearl, Remo, Selmer, Vito, Yamaha, Yanagisawa and Zildjian.

Most band instruments manufactured in China are of very low quality. It's more difficult to determine the quality of a string instrument since their are a number of smaller makers from all countries who make quality string instruments.

The best method to determine the quality of any instrument is to ask a local school band or orchestra director. They have seen the frustration of beginners who try to learn with a low quality instrument.

Biodata

Tan Sri Dr. P. Ramlee dilahirkan dengan bakat seni yang besar dan hebat. Perjuangan selama 25 tahun dalam bidang seni membawanya ke mercu kejayaan sebagai penyanyi, penggubah lagu, pemuzik, pelakon, pengarah filem, dan sebagai pengusaha filem. Tan Sri Dr. P. Ramlee atau nama sebenarnya Teuku Zakaria Teuku Nyak Puteh merupakan seorang pelakon, penyanyi, pengarah, pemain muzik dan penulis lagu terkenal di Malaysia dan Singapura.

Beliau telah dilahirkan di Pulau Pinang pada 22 Mac 1929 di pagi Aidil Fitri. Bapanya yang berasal dari Lhokseumawe, Aceh, telah mendirikan rumahtangga dengan Che Mah Hussein berasal dari Butterworth pada tahun 1925 di Kubang Buaya, Butterworth. Mendapat pendidikan awal di Sekolah Melayu Kampung Jawa dan kemudian ke Sekolah Francis Light. Seterusnya beliau menyambung pelajaran di Penang Free School sehingga meletusnya Perang Dunia Kedua.

Bermula dengan bermain ukele, P. Ramlee beralih kepada gitar dan biola di bawah bimbingan Encik Kamaruddin (pemimpin brass band di Penang Free School). Beliau menyertai Orkes Teruna Sekampung dan kemudian Sinaran Bintang Sore. Beliau pernah menjadi juara nyanyian anjuran Radio Pulau Pinang pada tahun 1947 dan terpilih sebagai Bintang Penyanyi Utama Malaya. Dalam pertandingan itu, beliau menggunakan huruf "P" (bagi Puteh) di awal namanya dan kekallah nama P. Ramlee itu hingga ke akhir hayatnya.

Salah seorang pendorong dan guru P. Ramlee dalam dunia perfileman Melayu adalah Datuk L. Krishnan (Pengarah filem Melayu tahun 50an dan 60an yang terkenal). Gaya lakonan P. Ramlee yang amat berjaya itu adalah hasil inspirasi P. Ramlee daripada dua pelakon terkenal India Selatan iaitu MGR dan Sivaji Ganesan. Filem terakhir lakonan beliau ialah Laksamana Do Re Mi pada tahun 1972 dan lagu dan lirik terakhirnya adalah Ayer Mata Di Kuala Lumpur pada tahun 1973 sebelum beliau menghembuskan nafas terakhirnya.

P. Ramlee pernah berkahwin tiga kali. Isteri pertama ialah Junaidah Daeng Haris, berkahwin pada tahun 1950 dan bercerai pada tahun 1954. Pada 6 Februari 1955 berkahwin pula dengan Norizan tetapi jodoh mereka berakhir pada tahun 1961. Beberapa bulan selepas itu P.Ramlee berkahwin dengan Saloma pada 21 November 1961 dan jodoh mereka kekal hingga ke akhir hayat.

P. Ramlee menerima Pingat Kebesaran Ahli Mangku Negara(A.M.N.) daripada Seri Paduka Baginda Yang di-Pertuan Agong yang ketiga. Pada pagi Selasa 29 Mei 1973 ketika berusia 44 tahun, negara dikejutkan dengan kematian seorang seniman bernama P.Ramlee. Jenazahnya dikebumikan di Tanah Perkuburan Islam Jalan Ampang Kuala Lumpur. Bagi mengenang jasa dan sumbangannya, Allahyarham telah dianugerahkan Bintang Kebesaran Darjah Panglima Setia Mahkota oleh Seri Paduka Baginda Yang di-Pertuan Agong pada tahun 1990 yang membawa gelaran Tan Sri. Selain itu rumah terakhir beliau di Jalan Dedap, Setapak telah diubahsuai dan dijadikan sebagai "Pustaka Peringatan P Ramlee" pada tahun 1986. Manakala di tengah pusat bandar raya Kuala Lumpur namanya turut diabadikan pada sebatang jalan iaitu Jalan P Ramlee (dahulunya Jalan Parry) pada tahun 1982.

Kisah Hidup
Sepintas kisah hidup P.Ramlee bermula dari tahun 1939, sewaktu Ramlee di Sekolah Francis Light ketika itu merupakan Sekolah Inggeris terulung di Pulau Pinang dan masih wujud sebagai sekolah rendah kebangsaan pada masa kini. Di sinilah minatnya dalam bidang muzik serta nyanyian dan lakonan mula kelihatan. Ramlee belajar di Sekolah Francis Light ini sehingga tercetusnya Perang Dunia Kedua pada tahun 1941.

Semasa penjajahan Jepun, sepertimana penduduk Pulau Pinang yang lain, hidup di bawah tentera Jepun bukanlah mudah. Pada peringkat awalnya Ramlee ikut bekerja menjadi peon di Eastern Smelting di tempat bapanya bekerja dan menjadi jurubahasa sambilan kepada majikannya. Kerana bimbang ditangkap dan dihantar sebagai buruh keretapi maut, Ramlee mengambil keputusan menyertai Sekolah Tentera Laut Jepun yang dinamakan Kaigun Gakko.

Di sekolah ini bukan sahaja dapat menunjukkan pencapaian akademik yang cemerlang malah berpeluang untuk belajar muzik.Guru muziknya Hirahe San mengajar Ramlee bermain piano, biola dan ukelele. Di Sekolah Latihan Angkatan Laut ini juga Ramlee menjadi guru bagi rekrut pelatih yang baru dan sebagai Kyuco kadet sehingga Jepun menyerah kalah. Ramlee juga diberi peluang menyertai konsert-konsert yang diadakan oleh tentera Jepun. Sewaktu berada di Sekolah Angkatan Laut Jepun inilah Ramlee berkenalan dengan Sukardi yang kemudian menjadi sahabat karibnya yang sama-sama ikut serta dalam pancaragam dan juga sama-sama ikut berhijrah ke Singapura untuk menerima tawaran kerja di Studio Jalan Ampas.

Dalam bahasa Jepun, Ramlee dapat menguasai bahasa itu sehingga membolehkannya menjadi jurubahasa dan menyanyi lagu-lagu Jepun dengan lancar dan fasih. Pencapaian bahasa Inggerisnya juga agak baik walaupun beliau bukannya seorang yang suka membaca buku. Satu-satunya novel yang pernah dibacanya mengikut cerita dari seorang temannya ialah Athens karya Achdiat K. Miharja. Ramlee suka mencari perubahan dalam kerja-kerja yang dilakukannya seperti menyanyi sampai di hadapan pengantin yang sedang bersanding ketika persembahan kumpulan pancaragam yang disertainya. Perbuatan sebegini belum pernah dibuat orang.

Semasa terlibat dalam kumpulan pancaragam di Pulau Pinang, Ramlee tidak hanya sekadar mahu bersuka-suka bermain muzik dan menyanyi tetapi beliau mempunyai cita-cita yang terpendam di dalam hatinya. Beliau mahu menjadi pemuzik yang terbaik, penyanyi yang terkenal dan pemimpin pancaragam. Berkat usahanya yang bersungguh-sungguh, belajar dan berlatih dengan cita-cita yang tak pernah padam, maka akhirnya Ramlee keluar sebagai Bintang Penyanyi Utara Malaya tempat Ketiga pada tahun 1945. Beliau masih belum berpuas hati. Tahun berikutnya dicubanya lagi dan kali ini beliau mendapat tempat kedua. Pada kali ketiga dalam pertandingan nyanyian tahun 1947 beliau telah berjaya menjadi juara dalam pertandingan tersebut.

Dalam pancaragam yang disertainya, Ramlee cuba mencari perubahan untuk memajukan dirinya dalam bidang muzik. Dari Kumpulan Teruna Sekampung bersama-sama Sukardi, beliau bergabung dengan Pancaragam Mutiara yang bermain muzik di sebuah restoran di Butterworth. Sewaktu diadakan pertandingan keroncong seluruh Pulau Pinang dan Seberang Perai, Ramlee berpindah ke Pancaragam Keroncong Pemuda Indonesia sebagai pemain biola utama. Melalui lagu Keroncong Oh Suci yang dinyanyikannya, pancaragam ini telah keluar sebagai juara dalam pertandingan yang diadakan. Itulah cita-cita pada peringkat pertama.

Setelah tamatnya perang yakni masa remaja P.Ramlee, kerana keadaan masih belum stabil boleh dikatakan hampir kebanyakan murid yang datang ke sekolah nakal-nakal belaka, bukan saja malas tetapi bodoh. Jika kedatangan ada 15 hari dalam sebulan itu sudah dikira satu rekod yang baik. P.Ramlee seorang remaja yang keras hati, suka memonteng sekolah dan tidur di dalam kelas. Beliau suka menarik perhatian guru dan kawan-kawannya dengan kenakalannya itu.

Bidang Muzik

Semasa kecil, bapa Ramlee pernah membelikannya sebuah mendolin gitar dan sebuah violin. Dengan gitar dan violin ini, Ramlee berlatih bermain muzik di rumah 25A Kampung Jawa Baru. Di atas tangga rumah inilah pada suatu hari Ramlee telah mencipta lagu ‘Azizah’ dan’Mee Jawa’’. Semasa bermain dengan Pancaragam Rangkaian Melati tahun 1946, Ramlee mengambil bahagian dalam pertandingan nyanyian lagu keroncong dan mendapat tempat kedua (naib johan) dengan lagu keroncong gubahannya.

Pada awal tahun 1947, Ramlee menganggotai pancaragam Coronation Amateur Party yang kemudiannya diubah nama kepada Pancaragam Teruna Sekampung. Di waktu inilah, Ramlee mula menunjukkan peningkatan bidang seni muziknya dengan bimbingan pemimpin pancaragam Mohd Zain bin Kechik. Berhasrat untuk meningkatkan lagi prestasinya, Ramlee bergabung pula dengan Pancaragam Mustika di Butterworth. Pada setiap malam Sabtu, Ramlee bersama-sama dengan Master Ibrahim akan naik feri untuk pergi berlatih bersama pancaragam itu di Butterworth.

Lagu ‘Azizah’ yang dipersembahkan Ramlee dengan iringan Pancaragam Mustika ketika pertunjukan Pertanian Melayu Di Butterworth Pulau Pinang pada 1 Ogos 1948 ( * 31 Julai 1948) mendapat sambutan yang menggalakkan di seluruh rantau Melayu. Dari situlah Ramlee mendapat tawaran menjadi penyanyi latar untuk filem-filem Malay Film Productions (MFP), Studio Jalan Ampas di Singapura.

Pergaulan

Semasa hayatnya, Ramlee adalah seorang yang berperibadian mulia dan bertatasusila tinggi. Beliau sangat menghormati guru-gurunya sungguhpun ada kenakalan semasa belajar., menghormati orang-orang tua, pemimpin, rakan-rakan, tidak kira buruh, penarik beca mahupun aci jual bawang. Semuanya dianggap Ramlee senagai kawan rapat. Salah seorang daripada gurunya yang menjadi kawan rapatnya ialah Cikgu Mohd Noor Ishak ( Allahyarham Cikgu Mohd Noor Tarzan) yang mesti ditemui Ramlee jika melawat Pulau Pinang. Allahyarham Cikgu Mohd Noor Ishak adalah guru Ramlee semasa bersekolah di Sekolah Melayu Kampung Jawa dan dialah yang menjadi penghubung (penjinak) untuk membawa Ramlee mengadakan persembahan tiap-tiap tahun di Pesta UMNO Pulau Pinang di tahun-tahun 60-an dan 70-an.

Ramlee seorang yang tidak malu untuk mendapatkan sesuatu agar cita-citanya tercapai. Beliau akan menangis seperti anak kecil apabila kawan-kawannya dalam pancaragam di Pulau Pinang terlupa untuk mengajaknya ikut bersama dalam persembahan di majlis-majlis perkahwinan. Pada masa itu beliau belum lagi tahu bermain alat-alat muzik. Beliau hanya mahu melibatkan dirinya dalam aktiviti pancaragam yang disertainya walaupun hanya sebagai tukang angkat alat-alat pancaragam. Dengan hanya bertindak sebagai tukang angkat alat-alat muzik, Ramlee sudah merasakan dirinya seolah-olah sudah bermain muzik. Ramlee hanya dapat dan tahu bermain alat-alat muzik seperti piano, biola dan ukelele setelah berguru dengan Hirahe San ketika beliau mengikut Sekolah Angkatan Tentera Laut Jepun. Sejak daripada itu, tiap-tiap malam kemana saja beliau pergi dibawanya biola bersama-samanya.

Makanan Kegemaran

P.Ramlee cukup beradab apabila menjamah makanan. Bila habis makan, sebutir nasipun tidak tinggal di pinggan, licin!. Kari ketam adalah kegemarannya nombor satu. Satu lagi makanan yang digemarinya adalah laksa, Cuma yang dimakannya hanya kuah dan sayur-mayurnya sahaja tetapi isi laksa tidak pula dimakannya.

Ludwig van Beethoven - Raja dari Raja Pencipta Muzik

Raja pencipta muzik Ludwig van Beethoven lahir tahun 1770 di kota Bonn, Jerman. Zaman kanak-kanaknya jelas berputik bakat muzik yang luar biasa dan buku muzik ciptaannya muncul buat pertama kali tahun 1783.

Di usia remaja dia berkunjung ke Wina dan diperkenalkan kepada Mozart untuk kali pertama. Tahun 1792 Beethoven kembali ke Wina dan dia belajar muzik dengan Haydn, pencipta muzik Wina termasyhur diwaktu itu (Mozart mati setahun sebelumnya). Beethoven menetap di Wina, kota kemasyhuran muzik sepanjang hidupnya.

Beethoven, pemain piano yang memukau setiap pendengamya selaku pemuzik maupun sebagai guru. Beliau juga menjadi pencipta muzik yang produktif . Karyanya mendapat sambutan baik. Sejak umur pertengahan dua puluhan ke atas, dia sudah mula menerbit dan menjual buku ciptaan muziknya.

Ketika Beethoven berumur di akhir dua puluhan, tanda-tanda kurang pendengaran mula dikesan. Tanda-tanda gejala ini amat merisaukan komposer muda ini. Kecacatan ini membuatkan beliau merasakan ianya betul-betul suatu malapetaka. Suatu ketika timbul keinginannya untuk membunuh diri saja.

Tahun-tahun antara 1802-1815 dianggap waktu pertengahan karier Beethoven. Pada masa itu, akibat kelemahan pendengarannya yang semakin teruk, dia mula menjauhkan dari pergaulan masyarakat. Kemurungannya ini mengakibatkan masyarakat mempercayai bahwa Beethoven anti manusia, anti masyarakat dan benci bergaul.

Dia juga kerap mengalami saat-saat manis dalam percintaan dengan gadis-gadis muda tetapi semua hubungan tidak kesampaian dan beliau akhirnya tidak pernah beristeri.

Karya muzik Beethoven sendiri terpengaruh oleh keadaan dan sikapnya namun beliau sangat produktif. Tahun demi tahun berlalu namun perhatian yang diterima semakin menyusut berbanding kemasyhurannya sebagai seorang komposer di zaman itu. Kejayaan sebagai pengkarya muzik berterusan dalam penghasilannya dengan ciptaan unik.

Pada usia empat puluhan Beethoven menjadi pekak sepenuhnya . Akibat itu, beliau tidak pernah lagi tampil di khalayak dan semakin menjauhi masyarakat. Hasil karyanya semakin sedikit dan semakin susah di fahami. Sejak itu dia mencipta terutama untuk dirinya sendiri dan beberapa pendengar yang punya ideal masa depan.

Dia pernah katakan kepada seorang pengkritik muzik, “Ciptaanku ini bukanlah untukmu tetapi untuk masa sesudahmu.”

Dia meninggal dunia di Wina tahun 1827 pada usia 57 tahun. Karya Beethoven yang banyak itu termasuk 9 simfoni, 32 sonata piano, 5 piano concerto, 10 sonata untuk piano dan biola, serangkaian kuartet gesekan yang menakjubkan, musik vokal, musik teater, dan banyak lagi. Tetapi, yang lebih penting dari jumlah ciptaannya adalah dari sudut kualitinya.

Karyanya merupakan kombinasi luar biasa dari kedalaman perasaan dengan kesempurnaan tata rencana. Beethoven memperagakan muzik instrumental tidak lagi dianggap cuma punya nilai seni tahap ke dua. Ini dibuktikan dari komposisi yang disusunnya yang telah mengangkat muzik instrumental itu ke tingkat nilai seni yang amat tinggi.

Beethoven benar-benar seorang pencipta ulung dan asli. Banyak perubahan dilakukan dan diperkenalkan mempunyai pengaruh yang abadi. Dia memperluas ukuran sebuah orkestra. Dia menambah panjangnya simfoni dan memperluas daya jangkauan. Dengan mendemonstrasi kemungkinan yang hampir tak terbatas dihasilkan oleh piano, dia membantu menjadikan piano itu instrumen muzik yang paling terkemuka.

Beethoven membuka babak transisi dari muzik klasik ke muzik bergaya romantik dan karyanya merupakan sumber ilham untuk gaya romantik. Dia menanamkan daya pengaruh yang menerjah pada diri komposer-komposer yang muncul sebelumnya termasuk tokoh-tokoh yang memiliki gaya berbeza seperti Brahms, Wagner, Schubert dan Tchaikovsky. Dia juga merintis jalan buat Berlioz, Gustav Mahler, Richard Strauss dan ramai lagi selainnya.

This year will be a very active year for the orchestra as we have planned out a lot of interesting activities and performances - at least should everything go according as planned. In order to make these activities happen we require people to attend the activities or else the really will be nothing much to do, be it an outing, show or even rehearsals.

Garisan Waktu Era Muzikal

Pecahan sejarah penggubahan muzik klasikal adalah seperti berikut:-
Lagu purba – Muzik yang wujud sebelum tahun 476, iaitu pada ketika zaman kejatuhan empayar Rom. Kebanyakan muzik era tersebut yang wujud hari ini dari adalah dari greek purba.

Muzik era pertengahan – Secara umumnya muncul pada sebelum tahun 1450. Canta monofonik, yang juga dipanggil “plain song” atau canta Gregory, berkembang di sebelah barat dan tengah Eropah pada abad ke-9 dan ke-10. Muzik polifonik (berbilang suara) kemudiannya berkembang dari canta monofonik dari penghujung era pertengahan hingga ke zaman pembaharuan.

Muzik era pembaharuan - Pada sekitar tahun 1450 – 1600; digambarkan sebagai zaman kebangkitan dalam penggunaan instrumen-instrumen muzik dan baris melodi berganda; juga penggunaan alatan muzik bes buat pertama kalinya.

Muzik era barok – Pada sekitar 1600 – 1750; dipelopori oleh penggunan tonal kompleks daripada penggunaan modal, penambahan kaunterpoin dan meningkatkan populariti penggunaan muzik papan kunci seperti alat muzik hapsikord dan organ paip.

Muzik era klasikal - Pada 1750 – 1820; adalah era muzik terpenting yang melahirkan banyak gubahan-gubahan muzik, gaya dan persembahan yang dterima hingga ke hari ini. Era muzik klasikal juga menandakan pengakhiran zaman penggunaan alat muzik hapsikord dan klavikord; digantikan dengan piano yang menjadi alat muzik terpenting untuk gubahan yang kekal sehingga kini.

Muzik era romantis - Pada 1820 – 1910; adalah era di mana amalan-amalan muzik disusun dengan lebih teliti dan lebih sistematik. Peranan muzik juga dikembangkan di dalam budaya hidup dan juga dengan kewujudan institusi-institusi muzik untuk mengekalkan seni kerja muzik dan persembahanan, di samping kelas-kelas pembelajaran muzik. Pada era ini juga, tumpuan lebih banyak diberikan kepada ritma dan melodi; begitu juga elemen-elemen ekspresif dan emosi, selaras dengan idea romantisisme di dalam bentuk seni yang lain.
Muzik impresionisme - Pada 1910-1920; adalah zaman di mana penggubah-penggubah Perancis menggubah dan melahirkan seni yang bertentangan dengan tradisi muzik dan seni Jerman. Seni mereka dibentuk dari aritmia, skala pentatonic, nada panjang, frasa aliran dan penggunaan instrumen bras sebagai bahagian utama untuk penghasilan corak muzik berbanding dengan penggunaan instrumen bertali.

Muzik moden - Dari 1905-1985; adalah era muzik yang agak kompleks di mana terdapat krisis di dalam nilai seni muzik klasikal dan peranannya di dalam kehidupan masakini di mana para pendengar dan pemuzik telah menjadi lebih cerdik pandai, begitu juga dengan lanjutan dari segi teknik dan teori. Soarang ahli teori, Arnold Schoenberg, di dalam esei beliau "Brahms the Progressive," menegaskan bahawa modenisme melambangkan penolakan atau impak negatif di dalam kaedah penggubahan muzik klasikal.

Muzik klasikal abad ke-20 - Biasanya dikenali sebagai era muzik yang mana terdapat pilihan yang lebih besar untuk corak lama era muzik romantis sehingga ke tahun 1999, termasuk penggubahan muzik di akhir era romantis, era muzik moden dan di permulaan era muzik moden.

Istilah muzik kontemporari - Sesekala digunakan untuk muzik-muzik yang digubah pada lewat kurun yang ke-20 hingga ke hari ini. Namun perbezaannya dinyatakan di dalam kumpulan-kumpulan "genre" yang berlainan.

Kata awalan “Neo” (Neoklasisme) digunakan untuk menjelaskan gubahan-gubahan muzik abad ke-20 atau gubahan muzik kontemporari yang menggunakan cara era-era klasikal, romantis atau moden. Igor Staravinsky melalui drama balet “Pulcinella” dipanggil sebagai gubahan "neoklasisme".

Sdr. Mustafa Fuzer (Konduktor OSK) sebagai berkata;

"Perkara pertama yang ingin saya nyatakan adalah kita kekurangan pemuzik tempatan yang layak bagi mengisi kekosongan ahli muzik orkestra. Bukan sahaja kekurangan ahli muzik tetapi juga tenaga kerja yang berpengalaman di bahagian pengurusan orkestra.

Perkara ini amat meruncing apabila melihat kepada beberapa sesi ujibakat yang dilakukan di seluruh negara sebelum ini, kebanyakan pemohon pemuzik OSK tidak menepati syarat yang diperlukan dan gagal. Ada yang hadir tidak faham keperluan alat muzik orkestra, sebagai contoh ada pemohon membawa gitar bagi sesi ujibakat tersebut. Ada juga membawa alat yang betul tetapi tidak mampu bermain concerto, tidak ada pengalaman bermain didalam orkestra simfoni dan lemah membaca notasi yang diberikan semasa ujibakat.

Kelemahan ini berpunca dari kelemahan sistem pembelajaran di IPT atau kelemahan guru serta kekurangan pendedahan kepada sistem atau konsep simfoni orkestra itu sendiri. Walaupun ada beberapa IPT tempatan yang menawarkan kursus bidang muzik, namun graduan dihasilkan tidak menepati mutu ahli muzik yang diperlukan oleh sebuah orkestra simfoni. Kursus-kursus muzik yang ditawarkan IPT tidak ada yang menjurus khas kepada pembentukan atau menghasilkan graduan yang mampu bermain untuk orkestra simfoni, malah tidak ada sebuahpun universiti tempatan punyai Orkestra Simfoni yang lengkap dengan alat-alat simfoni.

Perancangan pendidikan muzik juga dilakukan pada tahap agak lewat iaitu selepas SPM, sewaktu mula masuk IPT. Pembelajaran pula pelbagai dan tak mungkin dalam masa tiga (3) hingga empat(4) tahun pelajar tersebut mampu mempelajari semua perkara dengan sempurna. (Kebanyakkan yang berkebolehan dan menjadi ahli orkestra samada OSK atau OSR mula belajar bermain muzik seawal umur 5 tahun).

Masalah terbesar ketika ini adalah sistem pendidikan muzik yang masih jauh ketinggalan terutama dalam menghasilkan graduan muzik orkestra simfoni bertaraf antarabangsa. Kebanyakan guru alat muzik orkestra simfoni yang ada ketika ini samada di IPT atau pusat muzik swasta belum layak mengajar walaupun dalam peringkat asas bermain orkestra, sedangkan pada peringkat inilah pelajar harus diberikan maklumat dan latihan yang betul.

Tiada bentuk kerjasama antara IPT maupun swasta dengan orkestra diiktiraf dalam malaysia untuk merangka sistem pembelajaran dan juga tenaga pengajar yang sesuai - terlatih dan layak. Sudah terbukti keperluan mendesak ini perlu tindakan drastik kerana ternyata untuk menghasilkan seorang ahli muzik orkestra simfoni mestilah melalui proses yang lama (14-15 tahun). OSK sudah berusia 14 tahun, tetapi masih tidak mampu mengisi keperluan pemuzik secara menyeluruh" .

Music therapy works well in people of all ages with health needs as well as developmental or learning disabilities. The client or patient need not possess any particular music abilities in order to benefit from music therapy. There is also no one style of music that is more therapeutic than the rest; the individual's preferences, circumstances, and needs will help the therapist determine the types of music to use.

Music therapy is effective in promoting wellness, managing stress, alleviating pain, improving communication, and promoting physical rehabilitation. It is most commonly used in the case of age-related conditions, substance abuse problems, physical disabilities, and pain. There are different types of music therapy that are used according to the patient's needs. Music therapists assess emotional wellbeing, physical health, social functioning, communication abilities, and cognitive skills through musical responses.

They then design music sessions for individuals and groups based on client needs. Although music therapy sessions will differ depending on the needs of each individual, most techniques include using music improvisation, receptive music listening, song writing, lyric discussion, music and imagery, music performance, and learning through music.

LIU YI RETALLICK - In 1998, came to Malaysia at the age of four.

2. Shortly afterwards, started learning violin with Markus Gundermann, Concert Master of the MPO. Now, 10 years on and at age 14 years old, playing chamber music with Encounter String Quartet and is also a member of OSR.

3. Attend a Chinese School and beside music, devote spare time to reading and playing sports.

DR. TAKAHISA OTA - well known as Dr. Ota started with flute since 1965 under the tutelage of Professor Masao Yoshida and Takeshi Koizuma.

2. Later was a member of ' Waseda University Orchestra ' which won the Grand-Prix during the
' World Amateur Orchestra Competition ' organized by 'Herbert Von Karajan' in Germany. Also
a trainer of the ' Shin-Symphony Orchestra', Japan and a few other orchestra.

3. Had been a Conductor to the National Symphony Orchestra of Malaysia (NSO) from year 1993 to 2000. As Music Advisor to the same NSO from year 2005 to 2007 (sponsored by the Japanese Government through JICA). Received Ph.D in music from 'Somerset University, Belgium'.

1. In 1977, Orkestra Simfoni Muda (OSM) was set up and formerly known under the 'Young Musicians Programme' (PPM) by the Malaysia Youth and Sports Ministry .

2. Its aim was to give youth in the Klang Valley the opportunity to learn and play orchestral instrument. It was also the first step toward the formation of a National Level Symphony Orchestra.

3. In 1983, the OSM was officially launched by DYMM Seri Paduka Yang di Pertuan Agong (the 8th King). It became the foundation for the formation of the National Symphony Orchestra of Malaysia.

4. In 1998, DYMM Seri Paduka Baginda Yang di Pertuan Agong (the 10th King) launched the 2nd iteration of the OSM with new brand name Orkestra Simfoni Remaja (OSR). They were 70 musicians between the age of 6 to 25 at the Experimental Theatre, National Cultural Complex.

5. The Orchestra is presently based at ISTANA BUDAYA under the leadership of Ms Mayya Musaeva, the Concert Master of the National Symphony Orchestra of Malaysia (NSO) and Conducted by Dr Takahisa Ota with En Mustafa Fuzer Nawi as Adviser being the NSO Conductor.

1. 6hb Sept 08 (Sabtu 3pm-5pm)- 16 orang hadir mesyuarat kenal pasti kesungguhan setiap ahli dalam program latihan.

2. Semua ahli dapat peluang beri cadangan tambah-baik OSR, ada minta elaun makan dan elaun latihan. Pelbagaikan Repertoire dan ahli diminta kerjasama untuk dapatkan arrangement. Ada ketika ahli tidak ambil peduli untuk tandatangan kedatangan, ia penting pada pengurusan tentukan jumlah ahli yang hadir latihan.

3. Mdm Mayya - OSR wujud dengan tujuan beri pendedahan pada pemuzik amatur dan remaja dalam simfoni orkestra dan tahap OSR masih peringkat awal . Ahli harus ambil peluang jadikan OSR sebagai institusi pendidikan jika ahli minat untuk jadi pemuzik professional.

4. Dr. Ota - ceritakan kisah dulu, seorang pemuzik simbal dapat peluang untuk konsert orkestra. Zaman itu belum ada kapalterbang hanya kapal laut sebagai pengangkutan . Perjalanan jauh dari Jepun ke Eropah memakan masa selama tiga (3) bulan untuk sampai ke destinasi konsert.Pemuzik itu hanya perlu main satu (1) beat dalam satu(1) lagu untuk konsert tersebut. Akhirnya apa yang berlaku pada hari persembahan.., beliau tidak juga dapat main satu (1) beat itu dengan tepat..(miss the note)

Pengajaran - Seorang pemuzik mesti ada kesungguhan dan minat dalam kumpulan seperti orkestra simfoni yang di ceburi dan mereka seharusnya enjoy dengan perkara dilakukan itu bukan tujuan untuk konsert saja.

5. Laman web OSR - Ahli beri cadangan supaya laman web lebih pro-aktif. Banyakkan informasi terkini dan harap, paparan gambar dimuatkan dalam laman utama dan bukan dalam photobucket.

As you can see, the blog is expanding bit by bit and as such some things will be upgraded from time to time. The first change that we have done is that our CBox is now a Premium User Cbox - meaning to say that accounts can be created and saved as well as better management. The next step is to register for a domain name which we will discuss eventually.

Putting the above on hold, there are rehearsals this coming Saturday at 3PM as usual. Our dear conductor Madam Mayya would like to hold a small meeting do discuss the further direction of the orchestra and what to do next, future performances, outings, etc - if you seriously want to be involved, please drop by.

Outing, Live Telecast & Concert... All in half a week

What a week! The OSR has gone through yet another outing (please mail all your photos to orkestraremaja@gmail.com so we can post them on Photobucket), a live telecast of some of the songs that we will play on the concert, and not to mention the concert today. We will get a video of the outing and post some photos - as soon as they arrive - later on on the blog.

Allrighty people, we hope everyone is somehow aware about what will be going on these few weeks - we have some very interesting activities planned out for our orchestra! Allow me to put them in point form;

1) ON THE 24TH (next week - it's a Sunday) is our OSR Outing! Yay! We'll be visiting fruit orchards, waterfalls, children's homes and another special activity - we, the OSR will be going street busking to promote our upcoming concert and this blog - hopefully we can get a good response and better turnout. Street busking as in playing by the roadside - our clarinet player Eizaz will be forming a small ensemble to jam; see him during rehearsals for more information. At the end we will also be giving a small performance for the children's home; if anyone wants to perform feel free to prepare something - group, solo, impromptu, stand-up comedy - and cheer up someone's day!

Time & Date: 24th August 2008 - Istana Budaya bus leaves at 8AM, will be back by six-ish

Things to Bring: OSR T-shirt (if you do not have this shirt please fill in your name next week and we will prepare it for you), slippers, shoes, some extra dry clothing. Instruments optional

2) OUR CONCERT falls on the 29th and 30th of August 2008 at Istana Budaya. We only have two weeks left so please practice your parts!

3) The String Section will be playing at Istana Budaya at CANCELLED, NO STRING PERFORMANCE, Istana Budaya has called it off for reasons unknown. Oh well.

4) PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE e-mail us your name and position to update our Musician Listing. Until we can collect a proper record of confirmed players we request your support. You can contact us at orkestraremaja at gmail.com, the official mailing address.

5) THE RTM/TV3 recordings have been posponed due to unforseen circumstances. We will await Ms Mayya's update regarding this.

Tahukah anda- Orkestra, muzik di tahap yang tinggi. Ia merangkumi lebih 40 peralatan muzik. Pemuzik orkestra pula maksimum antara 110 hingga 120 orang, manakala minimum sekitar 60 hingga 70 orang.

Ada banyak kategori orkestra, dari sekecil quartet yang merangkumi satu biola, dua violin, satu first violin dan satu cello. Ada juga wind quartet, sehinggalah kepada brass band, big band dan ensemble. Alat muzik yang menduduki carta orkestra ialah flute hinggalah kepada contra bass (paling bawah).

Dari 'orchestrator' sampai kepada penyalin skor muzik seterusnya kepada konduktor dan terakhirnya ialah pemuzik adalah satu organisasi yang bijak. Mulanya muzik orkestra adalah dari 'orchestrator' yang mengubah dan menyusun muzik orkestra. Orchestrator seorang yang penting dan semestinya bijak. Kenapa begitu..,bayangkan kalau anda mendengar muzik orkestra, terutama-seperti contoh skor muzik filem 'Star Wars'. Nama hebat seperti 'John Williams' dan Michael Carmen. Dari syahdunya muzik itu buatkan kita rasa takut atau apa jua rasa. Orchestrator mendampingi kita dengan muzik yang mereka ilhamkan.

Kerjanya amat rumit. Bayangkan dalam orkestra itu ada lebih 40 peralatan muzik dan ribuan notasi. Sungguh terperinci kesyahduan gesekan biola dengan wind,brasses dan percussion. Ia satu kerja menuntut bakat yang dianugerahkan tuhan untuk menghasilkan muzik seumpamanya. Kalau nak belajarpun, dia memerlukan masa berpuluh tahun!

Itu kerja orchestrator, tapi untuk pemuzik orkestra, mereka tidak ada masaalah memainkan apa saja muzik yang ditulis bergantung kepada kepakaran seseorang pemuzik. Tugas yang paling akhir ialah di tangan konduktor. Konduktor yang berpengalaman akan mengetahui apa yang dikehendaki orchestrator. Kerjasama antara konduktor dan pemuzik adalah sangat penting.

Orkestra adalah muzik paling mencabar yang mengiktiraf pencapaian anda sendiri dalam dunia muzik yang anda ceburi. Kedudukan orkestra adalah paling atas dalam hal ehwal muzik. Kalau anda tidak iktiraf bermakna anda tidak iktiraf diri anda sendiri. Pemuzik orkestra seharusnya berkebolehan cemerlang dari segi apa saja.

Anda bebas memilih cita rasa muzik seperti rock, balada, R&B atau sebagainya, tapi kenalilah muzik orkestra kerana ia tertinggi. Sekalipun anda masuk universiti dan ingin menjadi pemuzik 'conservertory', anda masih perlu menjalani ujian ketat..

April 26th Concert and Upcoming Schedule

The Orkestra Simfoni Remaja (yeah, that's us) held its first concert at Istana Budaya this year on the 26th of April 2008 at Istana Budaya, Jalan Tun Razak, Kuala Lumpur. The concert started at 8:30PM and opened with song selections ranging from Grieg, Schubert and Beethoven. The crowd response and turnout was positive - everyone worked very hard to make the function happen and to all involved, a job well done! Kudos to all members for your commitment and time.

Anyway, our conductor Ms Mayya has stated that there are to be no more rehearsals for the whole of May (yippee!). We will be starting again in ~~July~~ I mean June - list of participating members still not known. Keep watching this space for additional information and updates, as this will be an archive of all dates and the band's upcoming schedule. We are still trying to get a video of performance that night, as well as the first recording on that afternoon to upload to youtube.

Hello everyone! Welcome to the official blog of the Orkestra Simfoni Remaja, or OSR. We at the OSR Administration team are proud to present this blog as both a referance point for performances, meetings and just a get-together zone for everyone.
